IN HISTORY
Cabin Fever
Walter Beech’s determination to develop an enclosed monoplane aimed specifically at the corporate market became a reality in 1928 and went on to make history as the grand patriarch of the Beechcraft King Air.
Walter Beech’s first specific attempt at marketing a fully enclosed cabin business airplane was the Type 6000, shown here in prototype configuration after completion at the Wichita, Kansas, Travel Air factory in April 1928. Production versions, known as the Type 6000B and A6000A, were larger overall than the prototype. More than 150 airplanes were built before production ended in 1931.
