The Buchanans spend their winter months in Scotts- dale, Arizona, and like to transport their grandkids in the King Air to spend their spring break there.
but they have grown to now have offices and facilities in Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Texas.
Kevin Weilein flies the King Air, which is based at Fort Wayne International Airport (KFWA), and also manages it for the Buchanans. Randy Chad also flies the airplane, and he decided to earn his commercial driver’s license once joining the team. In the first year of ownership, they flew the airplane 235 hours and it also was leased out when not in use.
For business purposes, the aircraft is used to fly to those satellite sales offices, meet with customers and attend industry events.
“We put three, four or five people on the airplane comfortably and can make two or three stops in a day,” Geary said. “We’ve grown quite a bit in the last few years and having the King Air makes it easier to get out and see customers. We are able to cover more territory with our people. We have a lot of different customers, and having the King Air allows us not to need the position of national sales manager because our account managers can get out to visit with customers two or three times a year.”
The Buchanans spend several months each winter in Scottsdale, Arizona, where they stay plugged into the business remotely as well as through a local office.
That means Arizona is a top spring break destination for their grandkids, and the King Air comes in handy for those trips as well as other personal trips, from attending a wedding in Connecticut to a fishing and golfing excursion in South Dakota with friends and family.
“It’s great to be able to load up the airplane with the grandkids and give them some Oreo Double Stuf cookies,” Geary said. “They just love it.”
